Thoughts on the video we watched in class:
Wow!!! Powerful video… One sentence in particular caught my attention: “The Web is no longer just linking information… The Web is linking people…” We are so used to this advanced technology that we sometimes oversee the power that the web holds over our lives. In this day in age we are connected/linked to everything, because the Web 2.0 IS linked to everything. We can go to a page, click on a link that takes us to another page and another link completely different and so forth and so on. It can be overwhelming to grasp the whole idea. Also the way we blog, upload pictures, the websites we go on, emails, the links, posts, etc; all connect with everything else, making us part of this infinite network. The number of people interacting with the web these days is astonishing and it keeps growing every second.
One thing we might be overseeing or that we might not stop to think about is that WE are the ones feeding this information and creating this whole other world. Are we thinking carefully about everything that we feed into it? Are we ready to change our values? To give up our privacy? To change the way we view and interact with the world today? The title of the video is very intriguing and disturbing at the same time…The machine is US… The machine is USING us. Something to think about…
